Hello, I'm Dave Reedy. I think I was born a genealogist.
Ever since I was a child I would sit and listen to "old folks" tell their stories
and tales about all the relatives and friends until I felt like I knew them all
personally. And I had to know every detail. I would ask so many questions about the
people I had heard about to the point where they would run me off. When I got a little
older I begin the write it down. I was amazed that no one knew very much about the Reedy’s.
All my grandpa would say is that we came from over across the Whitetop. The only Reedy’s
I knew was our own immediate family in Washington County, VA. I knew then that I was going
to learn everything there was about my Reedy family. So the quest began.
I was born in Newport News, VA in 1953. Lived most of my childhood in Virginia and North Carolina.
Graduated from high school in 1971, and from college in 1977. Also got married in 1977.
Took my new career and my new wife and set out to find my fortune and conquer the world.
Well, here I am 30 years later with the same wife, still looking for my fortune and the world
is still unconquered. But I did find the origins of the Reedy family! That was an amazing journey
which I enjoyed every step of the way. I have met so many "cousins" and interesting people along
the way it boggles the mind. Some are still around, but several have gone by the way of things
and are no longer with us. From all of them I have collected every little bit of family history
and stories that I could.
Ten years ago Larry and I set out to make it all available to everyone via the internet,
and the Reedy Family Web Site was born. When we started we had about 8,000 people in the database.
Today we have over 40,000! All because folks would come to the site, find their families and
then send us the "rest of the story" along with pictures and whatever.
Then in 2004, the dream came to reality. We had the first ever national Reedy Family Reunion
in Abingdon, VA, where Reedy relatives from all over the USA came to meet and share in our family heritage.
And it’s not over yet. Our database continues to grow each year. The problem now is keeping up
with all the mail and additions being sent by folks to be put on to the web site.
But it is a labor of love and we get great enjoyment from doing it. I expect that I will continue
researching this family until I join my ancestors.
