553. Photo Hezekiah REEDY was born on 8 Apr 1845 in Little Helton Creek, Grayson County, VA. He died on 24 Dec 1915 in Tom's Creek, Wise County, VA. He was buried in Edwards Cemetery, Rabbit Ridge, Dickenson County, VA. Information for this family extracted from "Abridged History of the Reedy's of Virginia", by Edward N. Reedy. Also from C.M. Reedy, Ironton, OH.

"Valleys and Hilltops" by E.N. Reedy. Coeburn was orginally called Guests Station, VA.

This family resided in the Walker District of Wise County, VA. at Rush Creek, near Clintwood in Dickenson County, and in Pike and Lothair Counties in Kentucky. Hezekiah or "Kiah" Reedy was a farmer, school teacher, and a judge. E.N. Reedy reports that he served under his father-in-law during the Civil War with the 7th Virginia Vol. Co. F. Other source dispute this. James P. Reedy reports that he served with his brother Linville in Col. Menefee's and Capt. Bill Rose's company. The truth is that Hezekiah served with his father-in-law, John Madison McFall, in Col. Menefee's outlaw band of marauders until they were forced in to the Confederate Army as the 7th Confederate Cavarly Battery under Col. Clarence Prentice. By the end of the war, the 7th was located in Johnson County, Tennessee. Family tradition tells that Hezekiah heard of Lee's surrender at Appomattox, and that he was so disgusted over the whole affair that he broke his rifle over a stump and walked back home. Peter and Nancy raised a large family of God-fearing, christian, children who were an example and a benefit to their communities.

Daughter, Letty A. Couch reports, that he enlisted in Abingdon, Virgina, in July of 1862 at the Washington County Courthouse.
