Fifth Generation

19. Jacob RIEDY was born about 1753 in Goshenhoppen, Montgomery County, PA. He died in 1807. There are three references for John in the Pennsylvania Archives of his service during the Revolution. He was a private in the 2nd class, in the 6th company of the 3rd battalion of the Northampton County Malitia in 1782. (5th Series, Book 8, p. 286) He paid Jacob Hans to substitute for him on 14 Apr 1782, but the number of days is not given. (5th Series, Book 3, p. 263) On 18 Apr 1785, he was on the class roll of Captain Frederick Kunss, Northampton County Militia. (6th Series, Book 3, p. 886)

In 1773, Jacob, along with his brother Conrad, was a resident of Heidelberg in Northampton County. Soon after Jacob moved to Allen Township because the birth of two of his children appears in the Stone Reformed Church in Allen Twp. in 1775 and again in 1789. In 1794 he bought 46 acres called Greenwood and 36 acres called Goodlands In Chestnut Hill. In 1788 he bought 62 acres in Moore Township. In his will he lists lands in Plainfield, Chestnut Hill, Lehigh, Stour Townships.

Apparently there was trouble between his son Peter and his second wife Elizabeth. Peter was removed as executor of his father's will and replaced by Jacob's brother Abraham and brother-in-law Frederick App. After his death, his wife Elizabeth renounced her portion to the will and the executors had to hammer out an agreement between her and Peter.
