MY g.g.grandfather Edmund REDDY (20) and his brother Patrick REDDY (21) immigrated from Thomastown,County Kilkenny, Ireland to Australia. They arrived in Sydney on 4 August 1854 on the 'Lady Elgin'. They quickly made their way to the Bathurst, NSW goldfields to make their fortune. Edmund REDDY married Bridget DOYLE at Bathurst NSW on 16 January 1862. The marriage was registed in the name of REEDY. This was because the registrar was of German decent. Later they were married in the Catholic Church were there name was registered as READY. Very confusing. They raised a family of 6 children.Edmund REEDY died in 1888. A number of Edmund and bridget's desendants still live and work in the Bathurst and Forbes didtricts of new South Wales.I have also heard that other members of my family immigrated to the USA.Any information would be appreciated. |

His father was Jonathan Reedy who served in the Civil War with his father Silas with the Ohio Infantry Volunteers. I have copies of Silas's discharge from the service (two terms as he reinlisted on Christmas Eve as they received $300 for reinlisting). Anyway,Silas's discharge papers show Rockingham Co. VA as his birthplace. Could he part of your researched family? I did not see any that were from Rockingham Co. Your assistance in this matter would be appreciated.
